Vishwakarma Jayanthi – A Significant Day to Pay Tribute to the Creator of the World

According to belief in the scriptures, Dharma is the son of Lord Brahma. Vastudeva is the son of Dharma. Vishwakarma was the son born to Angirasa and Vastudeva. Around the same time, according to a legend in the Skanda Purana, Prabhas, the eighth son of Sage Dharma, married Bhuvana Brahmavadini, the sister of Devguru Brihaspati. Lord Vishwakarma is the son of this Lord Brahmavadini. His birth is mentioned in the Mahabharata. According to Varaha Purana, Lord Brahma created Vishwakarma on earth.

He built these buildings

Vishwakarma built palaces, mansions, vehicles, weapons and other technical objects on earth, Vishwakarma built Indrapuri, Dwaraka, Hastinapura, Swargaloka, Lanka etc. Hence tools, machines and industrial units are worshipped every year on Vishwakarma’s birth anniversary. The construction of the Jagannath Temple in Jagannath Puri, the construction of the Pushpaka Vimana, the construction of the palaces of all the deities, the Karna Kundali, the Sudarshan Chakra of Vishnu, the Trishul of Lord Shankara, etc. were built by Vishwakarma.\

Vishwakarma’s family

King Priyavrata married Vishvakarma’s daughter Bahishmriti and to this couple were born 10 other children including Agnidhra, Yajnabahu, and Medhatithi. From Priyavrata’s second wife were born three sons, Uttam, Tamasa and Raivata, who became the rulers of the Manvantaras with their names. Among the 10 sons of Maharaja Priyavrata, Kavi, Mahavira and Savana, three were pious celibates and embraced monasticism.

The five great sons of Vishwakarma

Vishwakarma had five sons namely Manu, Maya, Tvashta, Shilpi and Daivajna. These five were well versed in the craft of various styles of architecture. Manu in iron, Maya in wood, Tvashta in bronze and copper, Shilpi in brick and Daivajna in gold and silver.

Vishwakarma Dev’s method of worship

On the day of Vishwakarma Jayanti get up early in the morning and get ready after taking bath. Install a photo or idol of Lord Vishwakarma at the place of worship. Offer a garland of yellow or white flowers to Lord Vishwakarma. Light fragrant incense and lamps before them. Now worship all your devices i.e. technology-related things one by one. Offer panchameva prasada to Lord Vishwakarma. After this, take flowers and akshata in hand and meditate on Lord Vishvakarma.

Method of reciting Vishwakarma mantra

Use a Rudrakshi necklace to chant the mantra. Before starting the chanting, resolve to chant 101, 108, 201, 501 or 1001 times. How often you want to chant is up to you. If you want, you can have a mantra chanted by Brahmins too.
