Ghati Subramanya Temple

Ghati Subramanya Swamy Temple is a 600 years old temple in S.S.Ghati Post, Doddaballapur Taluk, Bengaluru District. The peculiarity of this temple is that the main deity, Lord Kartikeya, is found in association with Lord Narasimha. According to mythology, both idols are believed to have emerged from the earth. It is also an important center in South India for the worship of the Hindu deity Kethu. Special rituals are performed during the Brahmarathotsava, that is, the day of Pushya shudda Shashti. Narasimha Jayanti is another great festival celebrated here.

History

The temple has a history of over 600 years. This temple was built by Ghorpade from Sandur dynasty. it’s believed that Lord appeared within the dreams of the king and revealed his whereabouts. King with the assistance of staff and villagers uncovered the self-manifested idol. As per the legends, Ghati may be a place where Subramanya performed a strict penance within the guise of a serpent. He performed penance on these hill ranges. Lord Narasimha and Lord Subramanya self-manifested here on one idol. Here Lord Narasimha faces west and Lord Subramanya faces east. The idols of the deities in the Ghati Subramanya temple are believed to be Swayambhu and therefore the Nag Avatar of Lord Subramanya is often seen. People with sarpa dos come here to seek the Lord’s blessings after offering prayers and dissonance fees. Many childless couples since ages are visiting the temple for granting them their wish up-to-date children. The word ghati was derived from Sanskrit. It means pot. A serpent’s hood resembles that of a pot. it’s believed that this is often the place where Lord Subramanya killed the demon Ghatikasura.

Cattle fair

The fair held here in December is very famous and farmers from neighboring states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra as well as from many parts of Karnataka participate in the cattle fair.
