Kodlamane is a Tirth Khestra and Hindu pilgrimage site where Kodlamane Shree Vishnumurthy Temple is located. It is located in a hill forest. As per local legend the temple was discovered in the middle of dense forest centuries back. It is in Honnavar Taluka of Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka state. A natural stream flows next to the Shree Vishnumurthy Temple, which is called Vishnu Tirth.

Kodlamane Shree Vishnumurthy Temple:

Of Serenity and Mystery, is located in a beautiful heavenly forest on a hill in Sri Parasuramkshetra called Kodalamane. A beautiful stream flows next to the temple called Vishnu Teertha. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (or Mahavishnu) who is the only giver of salvation or liberation. It is an ancient pilgrimage center, a Hindu pilgrimage site. Visiting such a Shrine away from the crowd is pleasing for the heart. There is no other place like this anywhere in the universe. This temple is a place of great spiritual importance and a great place of liberation. From the temple Mahadwar (arch) one can reach by tar road in hill forest or trekking in hill forest(ancient route) to reach the temple. This temple is just one km from Idagunji and 23 km from Honnavar taluk in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state, India. This temple is famous for the darshan Seva.

Vedic Architecture

The temple is very beautiful and will take pilgrims to the world of devotion. The temple is designed and built on Hindu Vedic temple architecture. It has Garbhagriha, Antarala, Sandhya Mandapa, Maha Mandapa, Pradakshina, Assistant Shrine, Bali Peeth, Garuda Stambha. The sanctum sanctorum is facing east, where the presiding deity Lord Vishnu Murthy resides with other deities who are Lord Maheshwar (as Shiva Linga), Lord Ganapati, Goddess Durga. There is also the holy saligram, which is the symbol of Lord Vishnu. Utsav Murthy (procession deity Lord Vishnurmurti) also lives in the sanctum sanctorum, which will be brought on special occasions.

They are all in Mandan, which is why it is called Devata worshiped in Mandan. Lord Vishnurmurti is in standing posture with four hands holding Shanka, Chakra, Gada, Padma. The Murthy, called the Vigraha or idol, is carved with sacred black natural stone. The height of the statue is about 3.5 feet from Peeta to the top of the crown and Peetha is 1.5 feet tall. The sanctum sanctorum is a square made of natural stones and the shikhara or gopura or vimana above the sanctum is an octagon which is also made of natural stones. The roof of the summit is covered with sheets of copper (which transmit more energy). The Kalash is fixed on top of the copper roof called Shikhara Kalash, which is copper-plated gold. The Antarala in the Sandhya Mandapa is followed by Kuldevata Stan, the Sri Kamakshi Devi of Shirod, the goddess of strength. The entire set is called Garbhagudi. The roof of the sanctum sanctorum has a dome of copper sheets. The walls and pillars of the sanctum are beautifully depicted in Kaavi art, depicting the Dasavataras of Mahavishnu, Ganapati, Saraswati, Hanumath, Garuda, temple chariots, pallaki, flowers, etc.

Festivals of Temple

Starting from Ugadi they are Shree Ramanavami, Shree Hanuma Jayanti, Sudarshan Hawan or yagna, Tulasi Archan only during adheek mas(leap year), Ananta Chaturdashi, Navarathi Pooja with Bhajans (9 day festival), Vanabhojan, Vardanti of Shree Vishumurthy, Shree Mukhyaprana and Shree Yakshi, Ganahoma.

How To Reach Kodlamane

This place is located 10 minutes from Idagunji and is also near from Murudeshwara.
One has to travel 1 km in forest hill route from temple main arch ( Mahadwar) by vehicle.
One more shortcut to reach temple from Mahadwar is by trekking in dense hill forest.
