Sri Anuvavi Anjaneyar Nandavanam is located in the serene and historical location of Anuvavi, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, who is also known as Anjaneya and is situated in the picturesque surroundings of the Anuvavi hills, which are situated along the route to Kerala and are home to the famous Sri Anuvavi Subramaniar Temple.
Legend and Mythology
It is said that a battle took place between Sri Rama and Ravana, which was fierce and filled with intensity. During the battle, Inderjit, the son of Ravana, used a magical weapon that wounded Sri Lakshmana, the younger brother of Sri Rama. Vibishana and Anjaneya were anxious and sought guidance from Sri Jambhavan. Sri Anjaneya decided to fly to Sri Lanka to help Sri Rama, carrying a mountain in his palm. While on his journey, he felt thirsty near the mountain ranges called podhikai but continued on. Lord Karthikeya and his consort Sri Divayani happened to be on one of those mountains at that time and realized that Anjaneya was thirsty. In a moment, Karthikeya pierced the mountain with his spear, causing a fountain to erupt. Sri Anjaneya flew down a little to capture the water coming out as a fountain and quenched his thirst before continuing on his journey. This legend is a testament to the power and devotion of Sri Anjaneya and the divine intervention that aided him in his quest.
The temple
It is believed that the temple was built around 650 years ago. This temple is known for its unique idol of Lord Hanuman with five faces or Pancha Mukha. The main deity is 13 feet tall and is carved out of a single stone. Lord Hanuman is depicted singing or chanting the name of Lord Rama. The priest has to use a ladder to adorn the deity with garlands as it is placed at a height. The idol is adorned with precious ornaments such as a golden crown, diamond earrings, and a golden belt. Lord Hanuman is always decorated with His favorite tulasi garlands, betel garlands, and offered milk, ghee, honey, and other items. It is believed that praying to Panchamuga Anjaneyar can help remove obstacles and bestow blessings upon devotees.
Festival
The temple is famous for its annual Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, which attract a large number of devotees from all over the region. During this festival, the temple is decorated with lights and flowers, and special prayers and rituals are performed to honor Lord Hanuman.
